Welcome back to another week of Sully's Moments, today I will be talking about social media and how it has transformed public opinion and some paradigm and gatekeeping theories that apply to it. First today I will be covering what these theories are and how they apply to social media. So let's get into it. The Narrative Paradigm, developed by Walter Fisher in 1984, proposes that humans are "storytelling animals" who make decisions based on good reasons, often rooted in history, culture, and personal experience. Fisher also makes claims that people evaluate a story using two main concepts, narrative coherence and narrative fidelity. Coherence is when a listener determines whether a story makes logical sense or not, and Fidelity is when the listeners ask themselves if they feel that a story is true based on personal values and experiences.
