Draft Day Reactions: Pat McAfee's NFL Draft Takeaways

Image
Hey there, readers welcome back to another week of Sully's Moments ! This week I’m diving into The Pat McAfee Show  breaking down what makes the podcast so effective and who exactly is tuning in to hear Pat’s unfiltered takes. I chose to listen to The Pat McAfee Show about his reactions to this years NFL Draft. The reason I chose to listen to this podcast was because of his knowledge he has in the NFL, especially because he was a kicker for the Colts in 2009, and that he has a very electric personality when talking about football.  Pat McAfee has a great delivery throughout this podcast when breaking down all of the draft picks that he was excited about. Pat uses a lot of energy when talking, which creates a more fun and funny environment. He also has natural conversations with his co-hosts that sound like regular discussions between sports anchors, which creates a professional tone at points throughout his podcast.  Pat McAfee goes off script a lot and talks about ...

Not All Natives Are Literate

Image
Hi there readers and welcome back to another week of Sully's Moments! Today I will be discussing Prensky and Kirchners thoughts on what a digital native is, and a myth about being digitally literate. Let's dive on in!      First I will be talking about Prensky and what a digital native is according to him. A digital native are individuals who have grown up in an era dominated by digital technology such as computer and the internet, and therefore are comfortable and skilled using them. So people born after the 1980's are likely to be digital natives, and if you were born before that you are more likely to be a digital immigrant. A digital immigrant are individuals who were born before the digital age and adapted to technology later in life. I would fall into the digital native group because I was born after the 80's, and i've been surrounded by technology my entire life. Being a digital native has impacted my learning by making it more accessible and eas...

Communication and Relationships

Image
Hi there, readers! This is Sully reporting back on Sully's Moments . This week, I’ll be talking about how online communication has impacted a relationship in my life, as well as analyzing what stage that relationship falls into within Mark Knapp's Relational Development Model. The relationship I’ll be analyzing is with my two sisters, Savannah and Sydney. Over time, we’ve become much better friends—but when we were younger, we used to fight constantly, especially since I’m three years older than Savannah and five years older than Sydney. Now that we’re all older, the fighting has died down, and we’ve grown closer. When I was a senior in high school four years ago, I felt like my sisters and I were in the Integrating stage . We had just started trusting each other more with personal things, knowing we didn’t have to worry about someone snitching to our parents. We could also joke around with each other without it turning into an argument, which felt like a huge shift in our r...

More Friends, More Problems?

Image
Hi there, readers! This is Sully's Moments, and today in this blog I’ll be talking about whether there is an ideal number of friends someone should have to improve their mental health. In my opinion, social media does have an effect on one's mental health, particularly when it comes to a person's Facebook friend count. Anxiety, depression, low self-esteem, FOMO, and even addiction have all been linked to social media use. All of these negative effects are well known, especially for those with many connections. Having more Facebook friends or connections can expose you to more posts about other people's lives, which can be harmful to certain people. Even if they haven't missed anything, it can give them a feeling that they are, that can cause them to feel depressed or unhappy. For this reason, I don't believe there is a specific amount of Facebook friends that is best for mental wellness. I would suggest that you only include your actual, in person friends. You...

About Me

Hi there! My name is Sullivan Mahoney and I am a third year student studying Business Administration with an option in Sports Business. I grew up in Denver, Colorado, but I currently live in Corvallis, Oregon. I have taken a communications class before my freshman year, I took comm 111 and thought it was fun being able to give speeches on any topic I want. I primarily use online communication through messages, snapchat, and email. An interesting fact about myself is that I am a big skier and really enjoying going to the mountains.
